From Mrs. Shakespeare to Mrs. O Sullivan

Irene & Denis 2

The love story of Irene & Denis writes like a perfect storybook. Once upon a time, on a West Cork stage the couple met when they were both cast in Kilmeen Drama Group’s ‘A Whistle in the Dark’. Little did they know at that time, that they were soon to appear in their own real life fairy tale.

Irene Jetty

Irene Kelleher is a well known Cork actress who has featured on Fair City, Games of Thrones & most recently toured the UK as Mrs. Shakespeare in a one-woman play. Denis O Sullivan is an IT professional also from Cork. If she only knew when they met, that he would become her prince charming! Denis proposed in Dec 2014 by quoting their favourite filmThe Princess Bride

This is true love; you think this happens every day?”

Shortly after their search for the perfect location began. They viewed many manor houses but fell in love with the surroundings in Ballinacurra the minute they viewed it as it had all the charm they were looking for.

“We were simply blown away the place, it was so beautiful, unique and the grounds were stunning. The fact that each room had its own theme and style and there was something to suit everyone. It was like no other place we had ever seen. It had character, a lot history, culture, beauty and intimacy.” Said Irene.

The couple were married in an intimate church ceremony in Ovens and a close family friend, Father Bernie Maloney, was the celebrant. Irene’s parents met Father Bernie when they were at the airport 43 years ago heading to Vienna on their honeymoon, and had been friends ever since. It was very special to the family that he was the celebrant.

Signing Ceremony

After the ceremony, the couple arrived to Ballinacurra House in a vintage 1930’s Brenchley Convertible and enjoyed sipping champagne and delicious canapés with guests on the beautiful lawn. The Delta String Quartet provided the entertainment.

Irene Vintage arrival

The theme running through the wedding was vintage, rustic and natural and the essence of romance was captured throughout the venue. Each Table had a book titled from a play we were together or a one we had both worked on and a quote from each one.

The couple called on talented friends & contacts in the performing arts and TV/film world to lend a hand on the day. Arelene Keating had worked with Irene for film in the past and did her makeup. Samantha Kennedy, who had previously designed elaborate costumes for various productions, worked closely with the bride to design and create the bridesmaids dresses and also made the brides dream wedding dress a reality. Hairstyles were by Jennie Readman, who worked on The Tudors and Vikings and is constantly in demand in the theatre and film scene.

Bridal Party Irene

Day 2 saw the Cuban cocktail bar in full swing which was a big hit with the guests, who appreciated that second day to really relax and make the most of the property. The Frets Irish music band played out the evening and guests finished the night off with a good old sing-song!

“my Dad singing ‘Beautiful Dreamer’ was one of the most perfect moments of my life, one to treasure always” recalls Irene.

The couple went to Iceland for honeymoon and are off to Italy on a Mini- Moon in September!
